Update from the Road: Louisville and Los Angeles

After spending several days with a group of missionaries from around the world, life looks a little different back home.

Sure, I stayed in a hotel, presented a conference, trained in communication, and ingested enough southern cooking to clog my arteries well past middle age. Not exactly missionary material. Still …

I spent the better part of last week training a group of missionaries in the finer points of focused and powerful communication (a.k.a. Dynamic Communicators Workshops). Interspersed with all the training I heard story after story after story of real people living real life in difficult circumstances, told from the mouths of the missionaries who are loving and serving them. All I can say is I hope they were challenged and encouraged even half as much as I was. Wow. I returned home recommitted to ongoing, consistent support and encouragement of those who serve day after day in places we rarely if ever consider.

What an honor.

This week I’m traveling to California to spend the week with teenagers (a.k.a. Move Conference by Christ In Youth). A mission field, for sure. But one where the biggest enemy isn’t a corrupt government, desperate poverty or a lack of quality health care.

It’s PLENTY. And self-consumption. And insecurity. And a frayed family.

These things lead to hopelessness as much as the others. And they’re worth our loving and leading these not-yet-adults who need someone to care enough to help show them the way.

Pray for the week, will you?

More to come …
